they are the same apart from the fact that american guitars are more expensive due to higher wages in the u.s. no matter what you are told they are the same

personally id say mexican. i play elec. 6 string guitar though but bass should be no different. ive looked at MANY jap. AND mex. made Fenders (im a huge Fender fan) and it seems you really have to look at each instrument individually for its quality, i cant really say that one is more consistent than the other (much like the new Danelectro's). I personally like the feel of whats coming out of Mex. though.

Japanese are better,,,The parts are shipped from America to Mexico and made there...Basically cheap labour,and a cheaply made guitar.Japanese fenders and parts are all put together at the same time,so that little bit more time is taken.....happy jammin

Save all the trouble, buy a good shape used Fender - before all this outsourcing began.

Japanese, but forget it and buy a Japanese Squier PB from the late 1980s - better than either option new....
