The term for human selection is called artificial selection. Natural selection means it is selected by nature. Human's environment replaced natural environment, and artificial selection replaced natural selection. The evolution of the modern dog is still going on. It did not stop. The artificial selection is the role of human plays in the evolution of the modern dog.

The evolution of the dog ended when humans started to direct its development. Evolution depends on random mutations. Human genetic interference selects for desired traits, not random ones, and the environment does not determine which individuals survive. The breeder does.
