To be honest not really..

Why because

1) Its an player which actually needs a computer to transfer your audio files

2) If You are very keen about latest music and tracks then you may really in need of a internet connection to donwload them either directly in to your ipod or in to your computer and later transfer them in to your ipod.

3) If you dont have an internet connection no problem either get the Compact disc available in the market and Rip them in to your local disc [ c: d: ] and transfer them in to your ipod

4) Depending upon your ipod you need to have a cable to connect to the computer or any other wireless connectivity mechanisms like blue tooth and so on

5) Internet is optional

Yes and no. Vague, huh? Yes if you want to get to ITUNES which technically dials onto the internet. No if you just rip songs from friends and acquaintances.
