*Ask everyone to wear hawian shirts if they have them.
*Have two people hand out lays to the guests at the door.
*Make your mom wear a hula skirt, or just have random people at the party wear them.
*TIki Torches
*Maybe you can find some hula dancers to perform while everyone eats dinner

Good luck!

Every year for the last 3 years we have a big party for my hubby, my cousin and my sister in law for their birthdays. (They are all within a week of each other) We actually roast a pig (only $100 for an 80 lb pig) and then have everyone bring a side dish. Last year I did all the cooking myself. I cooked sweet and sour meatballs, teriyaki chicken, rice, lots of fruit and salads. We have a pool set up for kids and kids and adults play limbo and volleyball. We have music playing and everyone just enjoys each other. We usually have 80-120 people. We go to party city or Zurchers and buy the cute decorations. Tiki torches are placed around the yard. We have everyone dress hawaiian and we give them each a lei when they get there. Of coarse we have tropical drinks. It is so much fun! Now every year we have people asking when the pig party is so they can make sure to keep that night open!

Great Theme!!! Many options!! Tiki torches are a must!!! Ask your guest to all dress for the theme. Use grass skirts around the edges of the table. I don't know how much expense you are going to or how much trouble............but you could always put down tarps and throw sand on top for a complete Hawaiian Beach!! Pass out floral Lais (misspelled) to each of your guest! Don't forget the disposable cameras on the table so your guest can capture the party and provide lasting memories for you Mom!!

Have a luau buffet. Check out Oriental Trading Company's website. They have a TON of luau stuff. I had an over the hill party for my mom's 50th. She loved it & OTC provided the decorations, games & gift bags. You can do the limbo too.

My friend just had a luau! She has lays for everyone who came, used bright colors, had Jimmy Buffet music playing. It depends on how much money you wan to spend. There are alot of things this time of year at party decoration stores. And do not for get to check the dollar store out. For food she did chesseburgers, lots of fruit (exotic), Shrimp on the BBQ, pasta salads. I hope this helped alittle. Have fun...and happy B-day to your mom!
