There isn't much to do. As an adult, the son can do pretty much whatever, unless he's mentally incapable. They could put up posters, take out ads in the paper, and hire a private investiagtor, but unless he wants to be found, they probably won't be able to get him back.

If they were paying for college, they might be able to claim he owed them money, and they could maybe get some of that back. Doing that might get the son to wake up to what he's doing, if it's something wrong, but it certainly won't put them on good terms with him for a while.

They mustn't blame themselves. Although they have probably spoiled and molly coddled him in the past. Now he's going to grow up.

They should count their blessings. Many parents have 18 year old's stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

There is nothing they can do. Just be grateful the selfish little **** didn't leave home when he was younger.

They must get on with their own lives. He'll be back when he runs out of money.
