Why do people patronize the big boxes? Shouldn't we spend our money in our own community and not help these corporate executives achieve huge bonuses? I'm tired of Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc. receving all the money. If you really look around they're not always cheaper!

If you have the extra money to spend at the mom and pop stores than great. Best savings are from the big box stores. The consumer shopping at the mom and pop is not going to run the big box stores out of business. Personal decision. Personally the local hardware store and Home Deport are both close to my house, certain things I get at Home Depot (paint) but I'll have my keys made at the local store.

I try to shop at family-owned stores but they are too expensive. I hate paying 20% more just so I can "support" a family-owned business. If I felt like I was getting better service, I might stick with a family-owned business. However, that's usually not the case.

Both types have pro's and con's. Larger corporations have the ability to lower prices on many items, yet the family owned businesses lower on some. Larger corps usually offer their employees better benefits, yet family owned are friendlier, less stressed and more understanding. So, I will shop at both for many reasons.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!

NOT ONLY ARE THEY CONTRIBUTING TO URBAN SPRAWL, THEY DON'T EVEN PAY A FAIR WAGE, AND LASTLY (ESPECIALLY) WALMART DOESN'T PROVIDE HEALTHCARE BENEFITS FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES. THAT IS PATHETIC!!!
