Start with quite a high factor - and expose your skin a little more every day. You know that in order to stay safe from skin damage, you should stay out of the sun at the hottest times of the day. Take it gradually. I am sorry but, if you have pale skin and are only in Turkey for one week....it would probably not be good for your skin to come back with much of a tan.....
If you're there for longer than a week, perhaps... but do think of the long term consequences...pale skin is very beautiful, try to resist the social pressure to be tanned....
I know what it's like, because I too have pale skin!
My advice would be - look after your skin now, because the sun ages your skin over the years, and those brown "sun spots" that people get as they grow older are horrible.
Invest in a good quality self tanning lotion and apply it evry day (don't forget to apply lots of sun protection too, as the self tan doesn't provide any protection.
That way, you will come back with a tan, but you won't have any skin damage.
Sorry if I sound like your Aunt or a teacher!!!

I am very pale with sensitive skin as well and my friend's husband is Turkish and they go in July of every year on holidays and the temperature can go as high as 52 degrees Celsius during it's hottest time so I wouldn't even entertain going outdoors without at least Factor 30 on me. Also I'd re-apply this maybe every half an hour as it doesn't take us fair maidens too long to fry in that kind of heat, have a great holiday.

apparently its not so much the factor as how many stars the sun cream is given. Some have high factors but only a few stars. One measures UVA and the othr is for UVB. The stars are shown on the back of the bottle. and I think they can go up to 5. So if you have a reasonably high factor and 4 or 5 stars youve cracked it. Have Fun.

use P20 in the morning and a factor 10 during the day. P20 is absorbed in to the skin and will give all day protection but top up with other product during the day. after the sun goes down use a good after sun lotion, make sure the main ingredient is NOT WATER, your wasting your time and money. get one with an aloe vera base. My wife is a red head, the woman burns under a light bulb, went to Spain last year and she got a really nice tan. Enjoy your holl's,

i would suggest a factor 30 or the highest you can get.
I recommend the piz buin once range - you put it on in the morning before you go out and it lasts for 10 hours. If you're pale skinned it saves you having to reapply lotion every ten minutes or so.
Just make sure you cover all exposed parts well when you first put it on, otherwise you'll end up with one very red patch!
