-= Software MP3 player =-
What operating system are you using? In my opinion WinAmp is the best ( www.winamp.com ) on the Windows operating system. It is quick and the controls are laid out like a CD player. A lot of the other MP3 players try to be fancy and complicated.
When using WinAmp choose the classic skin option. It greatly improves the speed of the player. I also think it has an easier interface to use.
-= Portable (harware) MP3 player =-
If you want a portable mp3 player then the iPod is really easy to use and sync with your computer. iTunes is really straight forward and streamlines all your processes.
I have an iPod nano. It has a nice color screen and a simple interface. The shuffle is probably easier to use, but you loose the ability to browse your songs and see what is playing. It really depends what you want to use it for.
For example for audio books the shuffle does have an audio book mode where it doesn't shuffle the tracks. Since you most likely have one audio book on it at a time then you don't need to worry about what is playing, so the shuffle would be the best solution.
Beyond ease are there other concerns you have about an MP3 player? Price? Flexibility, etc?

Maybe, Windows Media Player is the easiest, but all are very, very easy: Real Player, Quicktime, etc. You can find them in Google. Nevertheless, maybe, you should to learn to use all of them because many Web sites provide an only video format for view in an only video player... then, you will can play with the respective program. Don´t worry, all of these are easy.

depends on what you need an mp3 for. If you need it for just sitting on the bus or whatever just listening to then I recommend an Ipod... Ipods also have a lot of accessories that other mp3s won't work with. The other mp3s don't work with a lot of cool accessories ipod has....
If not for something like sports i would recommend something else other than an ipod.I love the Rios. They dont have color or pics but they are cheap, functional and perfect for general use of music and not other fluffy stuff.
