Udder cream - they sell it at craft stores and farm supply stores. It was designed to use on cows udders, but crafters use it because it is non-greasy and won't stain. Works like a charm!!!

Try a "sensitive skin" formula lotion (something with no dyes or perfumes) or you could also go to the drug store/grocery store and look for the stuff that nursing mothers use for sore, cracked nipples. (I just had it, but now I've lost it....what IS that stuff called? Just look in the section where the nursing pads are. It's a special cream you can use before you nurse, and it won't hurt your baby. If it's safe to use with a nursing baby, I don't see why you couldn't use it early in pregnancy. Very very gentle. I think it has lanolin in it.) Also, avoid harsh soaps when washing your breasts (best to stick with unscented Dove v. Irish Spring, ya know?) and DO NOT goop them up with Vaseline or anything petroleum based. It might feel good, but clogged pores and milk ducts do NOT.

When I was pregnant I used this wonderful stuff called Udder Butter. It sounds gross but they actually make it. It is used for dairy cows after milking because their nipples get dry and cracked, my OBGYN told me to try it and it worked great. It also works on the stretch marks, to relieve the dryness and itching.

Did you know they make a special ointment for this problem? It will also be a God-send if you plan to breast feed.

It's called Lansinoh and its the only one recommended by the La Leche league. I highly HIGHLY recommend you get it.
In the mean time, believe it or not, olive oil applied to the nipple is a quick fix.

Try rubbing some Vaselline on them.
Vaselline is gentle and effective for dry skin all over the body.
If you are worried about it staining your bra, try putting a piece of tissue between your nipple and the bra.

Oh how I remember that! I swear that was the symptom that drove me the most nuts with both of my pregnancies.
Vaseline is definitely your best bet. Mine stopped driving me bezerk after the first trimester, so hang in there!
