You can use it while it's plugged in. I have a new Dell Laptop as well and I plug it in and sit on the couch to use it.
I think there is a light that goes green when it is fully charged if you wanted to take it to a local coffee shop or something.

Well, I work with dell laptops all the time and usually they are fully charged right out of the box, but if it isn't fully charged you can just plug it in and use it while it's charging. However, if you want to use it untethered, just let it charge for about 4 hours and you'll be good to go. Hope this helps.

Until the charging indicator goes off. But generally, charge it for three hours (four to five just to be sure). Perhaps I am stuck in my ways but I would not turn on a laptop (even if it is using AC power) until the battery is fully charged.

Until the charging lamp goes out.

The instruction book should have photos of the laptop (top, front and side views) and you should see a small indicator lamp for power and next to it another small indicator lamp for charging.

You don't have any wait time. It comes with an AC adapter. While it is being powered by the power cord, it charges the battery and tells you in the taskbar how much it is done so far.

Since I don't know the model and the battery size, it could be from 4 hours to 8 hours
