You should do some research on the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
I highly recommend starting over here:

First thing people should know is what exactly "Palestine" is. The area of Palestine is currently divided into the states of Jordan, Israel, the disputed territories of Judea/Samaria (aka the west bank) and Gaza, plus parts of Lebanon and Syria.
The British carved off about 80% of Palestine to create the state of Jordan in 1922. Israel declared its independence as the Jewish homeland in 1948.
The Arabs countries have been trying to "finish Hitler's work" as they call it since Israel's inception, not to mention the pogroms prior to the establishment of the State of Israel. (ex. Hebron Massacre 1929)

Palestinians have a real grievance: their homeland for over a thousand years was taken, without their consent and mostly by force, during the creation of the state of Israel. And all subsequent crimes - on both sides - inevitably follow from this original injustice.
the Zionist movement, from the beginning, looked forward to a practically complete dispossession of the indigenous Arab population so that Israel could be a wholly Jewish state, or as much as was possible. Land bought by the Jewish National Fund was held in the name of the Jewish people and could never be sold or even leased back to Arabs (a situation which continues to the present).
The Arab community, as it became increasingly aware of the Zionists' intentions, strenuously opposed further Jewish immigration and land buying because it posed a real and imminent danger to the very existence of Arab society in Palestine. Because of this opposition, the entire Zionist project never could have been realized without the military backing of the British. The vast majority of the population of Palestine, by the way, had been Arabic since the seventh century A.D. (Over 1200 years
and so as it goes on, this is why they dislike Israel so much....and Israel does not help things with their airsrikes and constant being favored and treated special when really we should all be treated fair

Both are in the wrong. Palestinians will not admit Israel's right to exist. Thus they are unwilling to negotiate with Israel for land because they want ALL of Israel's land. Israel, likewise, has probably impeded on some of the Palestinian's territory too. Think of it this way though, there are TONS of Arab nations surrounding Israel. Why don't any of them offer land to the Palestinians? Lebenon, Jorden, Ect....
Another interesting thing to keep in mind is that Israel was created not by colonialism like the Americas, nor by prisoners, like Australia. The creation of Israel was a direct result of the centuries of persecution (violence, racism, murder) of Jews. For example, during the Holocaust (six million Jews masaccred!) ships carrying refugees were TURNED AWAY from all potential safe havens (this includes the USA, Turkey, etc.). The Jews had literally no where to go and thus died. Perhaps if the world had responded in a more helpful way the Jews would not have been forced to create their own safe haven (Israel). Likewise, Israel is a dry, arid country that is also mega small (can you even find it on a map?). It's not too much to ask for their own country.
Anyway, the details elude me. There's an excellent National Geographic article on the issue. It even has an easy to understand time line regarding Israel and the Palestinians. I highly suggest digging it up at your local library.
Ps- why most middle eastern countries dispise Israel? Because they are RACIST.
pss- Under the leadership of Jimmy Carter, something called "The Camp David Accords" was signed between Israel and Egypt. They are at peace now. We need more positive leadership working to negotiate peace between Israel and its neighbors. We also need to work on ending the racism rampant in the Middle East. We should be supporting groups such as "Seeds of Peace" http://www.seedsofpeace.org/site/PageServer
Just my thoughts.

The Israeli/Palestinian conflict goes back to the Biblical account of Abraham. Truthfully that's where the start of the conflict can be found. The Palestinians are the descendants of Ishmael, while the Israeli's are the descendants of Issac. God made a promise to Abraham to bless his descendants. Issac was promised the land by the Biblical account.
The palestinians believe the opposite of the Biblical account, and that Ishmael was promised the land.
If you read the Bible you'll see that the Ishmael/Issac conflict was foretold to continue throughout the ages, as it does today.
So, who started it? The Biblical account says that Abraham sent Ishmael away, and that Ishmael started stirring up trouble. The Koran was written to say that Abraham promished Ishmael the land. If you go by older text the the Biblical account is correct.
That's where it began though.

The conflict started when Israel was created by the UN. Both sides have historical rights to the land.

Below are two links where you can decide for yourself.
The first link is all of the UN Resolutions on this issue and all of the resolutions that didn't pass only because of US Veto.
The second link is the entire history of the conflict going back over 2000 years.

Some people from Israel say that there is no Palestine, so there is no question.
