Fly to Pewter City and enter the Museum through the back. To do this, walk through a gap in the ledge in the northeastern part of the city and use HM 01 Cut on the small tree/bush near the building. Enter and talk to a scientist in there and he will give you an Old Amber. Take that to Cinnabar Island and walk to the building to the left of the Pokemon Center. Talk to the scientist in the back of the room and he will take your Old Amber. Leave the building and immediately re-enter. Walk to the third room again and the scientist will give you a Level 30 Aerodactyl.

i thought that it was a fossil. as i recall you either get an ominite or a kabutops fossil. i can't remember if you can get aerodactyl or not. sorry, i guess this didn't help too much.
