It really is hard to understand why people choose their political beliefs. Especially when choices are made that don't correspond with helping their own personal situation.
I think that many people just choose their political affiliation based on what their family has chosen without giving it much thought. This occurs throughout all socioeconomic classes.

Last I checked, Republicans are more prone to be capitalists, not socialist like a lot of democrats.
