I guess I didn't realize. I'm naturally, perfectly dark(not black). everyone says so, that was my real reason for posting this, I guess you don't know what you have until it's gone!

It's all the pressure caused by those even-skined supermodels you see all over the place.
Everyone wants to be tall, tanned and thin (t t t).
It's only a matter of time before pale ann plump gets back in fashion.

At this point in history, a tanned complexion implies health and the leisure necessary to acquire the tan. In past times, other compexions have been sought after. For example, a pale complexion has been interpreted as implying that you do not have to work in the sun, but now a pale complexion is a sign that you sit in front of the computer screen all day...

Lots of presumptions going on here! Who says white's want to be dark? Not me. I'm happy with who I am and how I Iook.
Not everyone in the civilised world wants to be a Hollywood lookalike. And neither, I would think, do all dark people want to be white.
I think you need to broaden your perspective instead of making such a rash generalisation.

Black is beautiful to women and Handsome to men but the real truth stands on you the personality and your own perception appreciation and concern about what you are. Is better to be black than to be green. A colour is a gene's choice not man.

Well, my skin is dark (I'm not black, it's just "Mediterranean") and I absolutely HATE it (that's why I made my avatar's skin so white). I can't understand why people like dark skin, but I guess we all think the grass is greener on the other side and we want what we can't have.

This is purely a cultural thing. It seems to be in the west, many people think its attractive to have a tanned skin. I have just moved to the middle east where they think 'white' is gorgeous. So it just goes to show that, 'anything you haven't got, you want!'

I'm not sure. I personally don't mind being pale though. It's just the way I was born and I'm not going to waste my time overexposing my skin to the sun or going on sunbeds to try and change it.

I think everyone should just be happy in their own skin!

next time theres one of those espn bodybuilding shows on, look at those ppl. having a moderate skin color (not too dark, not too light) will show off more of the favorable lines, ridges, or curves of the human form.

you're never going to see an albino win one of those, and the very dark skinned ppl will use oils to lighten their skin in direct stage lights.

Hankering is in all people. They want to be different. The black would like to be white skinned and the white would like to be dark. Hahaha.

Having a tan hides the blemishes of the vain.
