you can't really stop the system clock - it's always moving forward when the computer is running, although you can set it backward in time from the current time. (like setting it to last week or last month)

note that many time limited trial software packages have already figured out this trick (setting the clock back) and detect when you do it anyway.

None of the above would work. For two reasons. One upon install a registry entry is created that says "this program is in use as of date" and two that registry entry is updated whenever you use the program. Three, the program dials home to see how long it has been in use (yes, I have seen that). So when it expires, it expires. There's basically nothing you can do about it. Yes, in the old days you could have changed the system clock and that would have worked. Not anymore. Programs (and programmers) aren't as stupid as they used to be.

What was the program, maybe there is a freeware alternative?

system clock is a critical part of system. you don't stop system clock, as it runs automatically, powered by battery (when system is off), and by electric (when system is on).

there are several ways to "cheat" time-limited trial software. i suggest 2 possible ways:
1. change your clock on your operating system each time prior to running the software. make sure your operating system does not has automatic time update.
2. use virtual pc and use your software there.

you mentioned "system clock" so i may safely assume you understand technical terms.

ps. another way would be to crack the software :p

The easiest way to run time limited software is to pay for it. Most software of this type is created by individuals (like me http://www.memorize-it.com) who charge a reasonable price and don't make a lot of money at it, but still like to be paid a little bit for the hard work we put in. Either write your own, or pay someone else. Anything else is theft.

get someone that knows what they are doing. they will need to remove the computer's outer shell to remove the lithium battery.
