In which sense of being retarded?
Retarded, in and of itself, is the inability to learn quickly, or just learning at a lessened pace against your peers.

Having Down Syndrome or other mental condition? Mentally, they are different from "everyone else." Those who are afflicted, preceive things differently than someone who is "normal." While most individuals who suffer from some sort of mental condition, many live perfectly fine, normal lives. Hell, there is even a college professor who suffers from a form of Down Syndrome.

THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW IF YOU WERE RETARTED? EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINION ON WHAT A " RETARD " IS. SAY SOMEONE HAS A STUDDERING PROBLEM, ARE THEY RETARTED OR DO THEY JUST HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING THEIR WORDS OUT? MAYBE THEY ARE JUST NERVOUS. NOT RETARTED. SAY SOMEONE GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT OR HAD A STROKE AND CANT TALK, THEY AREN'T RETARTED. I FEEL BAD FOR THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE SO SMART AND NO ONE GIVES THEM THE CREDIT THEY DESERVE. WHEN I WAS IN H.S. THERE WAS THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED CLASS. " THE SLOW CLASS." ALMOST EVERYONE OF THE KIDS IN THAT CLASS WERE THE SWEETEST, CARING MOST UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE I HAD EVER MET. THEY ARE JUST AS SMART AS WERE ARE IT JUST TAKES THEM A LITTLE LONGER TO GET THINGS DONE OR THOUGHT OUT. DEPENDING ON WHAT IT IS. I GUESS EVERYONE IS A LITTLE RETARTED IN THEIR OWN WAY. I AM TERRIBLE WITH DIRECTIONS AND REMEMBERING PEOPLES NAMES. AM I RETARTED? NO I DONT THINK SO. ITS JUST NOT MY SMARTEST AREA.

Probably quite blissful. I used to volunteer at a summer camp for the retarded. They were generally the happiest people I've ever met.

My son has an IQ of 69, and went to special ed in school. He has a full time job, credit cards that he pays off every month and wants to have a girlfriend. His life is pretty much like everyone elses, but he doesn't drive and probably can't get promotions.
He does know when people are picking on him though, but he has a fine life.
