Yes, a wireless router is kind of like a splitter, where it would split your cable/dsl connection for use on multiple computers.

the cable/dsl setup would be like this:

cable/dsl line -> cable/dsl modem -> router -> computers

that way you can have many computers using the same cable/dsl connection at the same time

Your wireless router will provide you with a network connection in your house. However, without an internet connection, you will not be able to go anywhere outside of your local network (ie, all the computers attached to the wireless router via cable or wireless connection).

If you have a broadband or other high-speed internet service, you can connect the external modem to your wireless router. Doing so will broadcast the internet connection across the wireless router.

If you have dial-up, you will need to connect one computer directly to the Modem or Internet port on the wireless router, and set up your own Local Area Network to supply an internet connection to any other computer or device via the wireless router.

Yes you do. The wireless router just allows your laptop to access the internet connection (Cable or DSL) with out having to be physically wired to the modem that they will provide. In some cases if you get a DSL connection you will be provided a dsl modem with a built in wireless router. If that is the case, the router you just baught will be redundant.

Wow! Everyone automatically says "yes."

Actually it depends!

If you want to wirelessly access one computer from another then an Internet connection is not required. For example I access the MP3 files on my desktop computer from my laptop computer using the wireless network.

If you want to access the Internet, then yes of course you need an Internet provider. The wireless router will allow you to share the Internet connection wirelessly, but it will not provide the connection to the Internet itself.

Yes you will, unless you know of an Internet Cafe or a Barnes & Noble Bookstore with free wireless internet access that you can spend a lot of time at.You'd have to have a laptop pc of course in order to do this. But if not then you'll have to get an Internet Provider.

Yes...unless the wireless router is a miniature community with Internet access of its own

yes you do need one. A wireless router only splits your cable connection either through 4 ports or in your case through the wireless. A cable modem is needed as well as an ISP.

yes u would if you want to have your own internet connection, since a wifi router can pickup other peoples wifi but connecting to these without ask is illgeal.
since if u have dsl, u would need to contact that to the router, or if its something like adsl eg broadband via the telephone line that would contact right into the the router.
