At that stage there is not way to tell for sure. Children don't show their sex till around 16 weeks gestation. Best wishes

i think considering the probability of getting a boy or a girl is close to half. which means half the time its a boy and half the time its a girl... its got to do with the xx and xy chromosomes pairings.
nevertheless... I believe the real issue is in convincing the father-in-law... letting him know that baby girls are just as precious as baby boys... or even more so in so many ways. Both are precious in their own ways.
Without girls/women in the world, guys/men would be incomplete. Similarly, vice versa.
For the record, i am Chinese and I am a guy. I come from Indonesia
Though i understand the concern of the father-in-law in trying to preserve the heritage and the family surname by having a boy. I believe that it is, to say the least, a very selfish act if he were to feel differently about having a girl as a grandchild instead of a boy. It could lead to differencial treatment and child abuse.
Perhaps you could ask him what would happen to the world if everyone were to try for a baby boy. What would the next generation get? All boys. How are you suppose to reproduce and sustain life with that kind of setting? And that is just the biological equation. What about the cultural, political, social and emotional equations?
If he still insist, ask about him. Would he have existed without a special man and a special woman? his father and.. guess what? HIS MOTHER?

11-12 weeks is too early to see the gender of a baby via ultrasound. You'll have to wait until at least 16-18 weeks or later. CVS or amniocentesis tests will give you the gender however.

My doc told me that you can't have your ultrasound to determine sex until 20 weeks... not 11, that's WAY too early. I wouldn't trust it. Plus, the ultrasound is only 80% accurate in predicting the sex of the child. I've heard that there is a test that is 100% accurate, but it involved actually testing the amniotic fluid.

I think that it is still a little too soon to tell. They told me at 12 weeks that my daughter was going to be a boy. I wouldn't trust the results until much later in the pregnancy.

She's 11-12 weeks pregnant, or 11-12 weeks to go? They can't tell the sex by 11-12 weeks, so no, you couldn't trust the results.

Ultrasound is generally done in 16th to 18th week of pregnancy.. by this time the gender of the baby is more clear and can be viewed in ultrasound .. u can trust .. and if u have any doubts u can recheck it with the dr .. atleast i did this and it was 100% true in my case .

ultrasound is not 100% accurate, especially if they say it's a boy, it may be possible because they wouldn't tell you if they didn't believe it themselves, but it can be part of a hand or foot or the embellical cord that is disguised as a john. most of the time they are right, but everyone makes mistakes and it does happen that they misenterpret these things

Thats really early to find out the sex of the baby. I suggest going and getting another ultrasound done when she is around 22 weeks or so.
