Without going into detail as to why I want/need to tan (for those that would recommend Mystic Tan), I have questions concerning the process of tanning in a booth.

First of all, I am a thick girl. So bear this in mind. I am also not light skin but I do burn somewhat easily on my back, chest, between my breasts and neck.

The last few times I have tanned in a booth I have come out with mild burns (as you are supposed to do at first) but there have been strips on my back and thighs.. like the space between the bulbs didnt touch.

Are there tricks to a successful overall tan in laying down in a bed? Is a standup bed better for heavier people? Do you get the same kind of coverage with a standup bed? Or does that require strange and unusual Kama Sutra positions?

And any opinions on lotions? Best kind? Tinglers, Bronzers, Neither? Spray or lotion?

Any actual help and opinions are welcome.

I used to work for Hollywood Tans a few years back. They only used stand up tanning and even though it costs a few dollars more, i suggest that instead of lay down beds. First off, you're not laying in one spot which is a possible reason for the "stripes" you're noticing. Also, in a lay down bed, you sweat, but the sweat pools around your body and that can enable you to burn easier. Most stand up units have music run thru them, and i always suggested to tanners to move while tanning. You are surrounded 360 degrees by the light and you're in total private. So get your dance on in there and keep your arms up (the booths have handles for you to hold). No Karma Sutra positions necessary.

As for lotions, i'd select one with a bronzer in it as you'll get more of an immediate result (results from tanning at a salon can take about 24 hours to appear). The tingle lotions work with your body chemistry to speed up the production of the melanin in your skin. It gets your blood flowing faster (thus increasing your heart beat) to bring the melanin to the surface causing tanning to occur faster. But i dont think its necessary.

Best of luck. Email me if you need anything else. CamoPrincess32@yahoo.com.

You are never supposed to burn. If the tanning place is allowing you to burn, you need to find a new tanner. Start out with a few minutes at a time. While standing in the tanner rotate, so you get an even tan. And Always use a tanning lotion.

You should NEVER burn, not even at first. A burn is an injury and horrible for your skin. Please make sure you are cutting back on your time if you are burning.
If you have places that aren't getting tanned, definitely go in the stand up booth. Just make sure you remember to raise your arms!
Lotions: try Spellbound by Designer Skin. It is a quad bronzer and works very very well. If you for some reason dislike the Spellbound, try this site...www.tanzotic.com. The emu oil in their lotions works wonders!!!

i would go in the stand up i have had to do that my self in the past before i lost weight. iwhen i first start tanning i am med skin color i go 5 min like 2 times then go 10 min for a few times i gradually work up depending on if i have burned or not if your not burning bump up the time if you burned more then just a little i would wait a couple of days to return back. it took me a week to build up to 20 min in a bed and then i go 12 min in a stand up lotions a good one to start with is a accelorator any brands with hemp is good australian gold ids good theres is one called you wish thats good to start it has a bronzer also just be careful with bronzers they can streak and stain your hands as you get more tan and think you need to use a better lotion one with tingle or hot will enhance your tan good luck! lanay skeels

my friend tans and she is about 5 ft. 3 in. and she is on the heavy side also she tans just fine!! first u have to go to a place with very updated beds. they will have sides on both top part & bottom part that slant down. go for about 5 min. the first time then everyday after that go a minute longer as long as you dont burn. its best to go naked also. ur stripes will disappear with time. if you want to keep track of how dark ur getting i recommend getting one of the stickers to put on ur belly somewhere or anywhere!! i have a heart. most of the places have them behind the counter or u could bring ur own. hope this helps.
