It is my understanding that the NFL has been requiring players to wear helmets for many years now. They are standard equipment.

PS. Patriots rule.

I have no problem with it.

If someone wants to make hundreds of millions of dollars, they can't expect that the person who will be paying them will be o.k. with them taking ridiculous risks and then still pay them for no play! I'd say if he were getting paid every Sunday after his performance, with basically a week to week contract, no one would care if he rode without a helmet - because if he didn't show up the next Sunday, he wouldn't get paid. No loss for the employer.

But they have every right to say "If we're going to pay you hundreds of millions, it's your responsibility to behave responsibly. We have a financial stake in you, so if you want to behave like a jackarse, we have the right to not pay you. Wear a helmet or be in breach of contract and lose your job."

No one said he had to sign it, right? If riding his cycle helmet-less was *that* important to him, he shouldn't have signed the contractk saying he wouldn't. It's choices. Priorities. Period.

You must understand that there is a clause teams can put on a player contract. The Steelers did not have the spine to put it on Ben's contract. If they had, he would not have gotten into the accident.

I think it's a great idea, they pour millions into these guys for only a couple months out of the year. I think it is a very small favor to ask of the players to take care of their own safety.

Perhaps standard NFL equipment should include face masks and shoulder pads when motorcycling.
