Many Misdemeanors (contingent upon severity) should not affect license application, but some do. Felony convictions and Sex Crime related convictions most definitely will.

Prohibitions to consider as follows:
"STATE DENIES A LICENSE: A teaching license may be denied to any individual for the following reasons (even if an individual has completed a state-approved program and has successfully completed required assessments, such as the National Teachers Examination or PRAXIS):
• attempting to obtain such license by fraudulent means or through misrepresentation of material facts
• falsification of records or documents
• conviction of any felony
• conviction of any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude
• conduct, such as immorality, or personal condition detrimental to the health, welfare, discipline, or moral of student or to the best interest of the public schools of the Commonwealth of Virginia
• revocation of the license by another state, and
• other good and just cause of similar nature

i would think child abuse cases involving sexual crimes and /or physical abuse! also thieft convictions of certain natures
