Hey, got a grandmother that lived to be 98. Both parents still alive. And I am 52. Old is a state of mind, not body.

If you are financially self sufficient, there are lots of ways you can help society. Take a volunteer position somewhere, and have at it. They always need help.

Food bank, blood bank, whatever hours you have open.

If you want exercise, Take a part at a historical place as a guide, or do the same at a nature trail if you are into outdoors.

Now, as to the career question...

Lion Tamer (Just kidding, old Monty Python joke)

Hmmmph...

You did not say WHAT you did in the insurance business. Are your skills in math? Do you handle the phones? Do you adjust claims? In order to suggest a new career, I would need to know what you are good at.

Many people who work in insurance transfer nicely to other areas of sales. I would recommend retail. You can find many areas in the industry that would suit you. For example: Fashion, sports, gardening, etc. I would also look at human resources in the recruiting discipline if you wanted a drastic change. You've proven your ability to sell, yet you aren't selling a product. You are selling a company (this may take a few years of schooling). I am 22, and I go to weekend college because of my busy schedule. I find myself in classes with many people your age looking for a career change. They enjoy it. Let me tell you something. My generation doesn't look at age. They look at open mindedness, and the ability to accept change. Don't think your age will hold you back from something. Not only is it illegal (and we are proud to be the first generation to really recognize that), but it brings an amount of diversity, expertise, and education to others that only age can give. Go ahead. Do it!

You are definitely not too old. Get out of your rut. You should enjoy your life, this includes your career.
Anyhow, most people cannot afford to retire at 65 years old. My dad is 70 and he still works. I plan on working for as long as I can. But I want to do something that I enjoy. So try for a new career.

to some young ones, yes you are too old. If you have a job, stick with it.

In you age, you should either be now a executive or working in a temp. Unfortunately, many mid-age worker got laid off in the middle of their career and want to start it ovrer and it is hard.

If you want to do somehting helfful to society, do some volunteer work.. plenty out there.

You are never too old. Never. If you want to do something else, then go for it. If you want to go to school, be a nurse. Great pay. Lots of exercise. Helpful to society. Good luck.

I think that you are never too old to start something new. The trick may be finding something that you love doing. I know, that's really hard but since you want to be helpful and get excersice, you might try teaching dance if you know how to do that or maybe something in your parks & rec dept in your community. Good Luck!!

Your never to old to learn or to try new things.
Go back to school and educate yourself more. Join a gym. Social work is always good for the community as well as personnel self esteem. Good luck with whatever you decide to try.
