Depends on where you are but North Wales is good. It has beaches, mountains, an island or two and lots of things for kids to see and do like; Sea zoos, model villages, small trains and parks. Many things that don't cost much and that make a good day out with a picnic. Rent a holiday cottage like mine lol! - visit Englishcountry cottages.co.uk and you'll find some good bargain weeks and as everything is within about 50 miles or so you can get to see so much in a short time. Access is easy as well as the main A55 is an expressway that links the M56 with the whole of the North Wales coast.

You could go to one of the resorts like Butlins which might be cheap but then I expect everything is expensive once you get there. The best thing to do is to rent a flat or apartment for a week or however long you want. Anywhere you go can be reasonably cheap if you avoid all the tourist areas.

The Sussex coast is nice - there are plenty of cheap campsites, B&Bs and of course Butlins Bognor if you want a 'package' with everything near. If you have a car there are loads of cheap kiddy things to do-
- Brighton seafront
- Bodium castle
-Battle (Battle of Hastings- Abbey and 'experience')
-Eastbourne
-Beachy Head lightouse
-Cuckmere Haven nature walks
-Bluebell railway
Plus if it rains Brighton and Eastbourne have good shopping and 'indoor' things to do. The pubs and so forth are good for parents and family friendly along the coast.
I spend lots of holidays there as a kid and go back there now. It really is the best if you cannot afford the continent.

A campsite will be the cheapest holiday option, most kids love camping & many campsites have great facilities for children.
Pontins, Butlins etc are also good but unless you book them with a newspaper offer they aren't cheap.

Conway in North Wales. Apart from the sea and sand there are many walks over the mountains that will keep them entertained without costing too much. You could also go camping in a tent it will be an adventure for the kids.

I would recommend Devon, or Cornwall.
Paignton, in south Devon is great for families. There are some good beaches and lots of things to do if it rains. You can visit Torquay and Brixham and Dartmouth while you are there, contact the Devon tourist board for information on each. There is something for everyone.
Don't forget to try the Devon clotted cream teas!!!
Have a great time.
