That is one of those "Ook" type questions. Yeah, we owe them. On the other hand, we can't give them the country back.
So the question really is, how do we best make restitution.
And I don't have an answer to it.
For better or worse, I really have not been following what we have been doing. Native Americans do have control over some of their own lands, and are a semi-autonomous government from the US.
And that is as good as I can do. Probably not enough. But I, like everybody else only has so much time to absorb information.
So I will leave it to others, that may have devoted more time and thought to the question to answer it better.

Well technically no. The European settlers came and conquered, and should get the spoils. However, we (America, Canada, Mexico) all signed treaties with most of the tribes, and we should abide by those, and stop trying to take away more Native lands so we can put up golf courses. I mean come on, how'd you like to know the graveyard where Grandma and Grandpa were buried is now the 14th fairway? It makes me sick. When I was a kid we used the term "Indian Giver" to refer to someone who gave you something, then wanted it back. That's exactly what our elected officials are doing now, the scum.
Another point would be Japan. We kicked their a$$es big time, then helped rebuild the cities, strengthen their economy until it became as productive as ours(now its better than ours), said we were sorry til we were blue in the face, gave them trillions of dollars and they live half a world away! Surely we can find something for our own people. But no this is America we have to help everyone out, like the big Tsunami there in Asia, rush rush rush get them money, aid etc., then Katrina hits New Orleans and we still have people waiting to go home. Yes we do owe the Native peoples, big time.

American people owe respect, but it's the government that still owes the Natives more material things. There are still broken and ignored treaties. It's important that people understand, the treaties in place are treaties made between two nations... they mean no less than a treaty between the US and France. And for those who think it's all in the past... consider the forced removal of Hopi 3 months ago.. when valuable coal was found near a centuries old settlement.
And for the scalping savages comment... scalping and savagry were, for the most part, in response to the scalping and savagry of anglo-settlers.

They are owed being treated like human beings. Every great Nation has it's fall at some point in time as history will show you. If someone just moved in on your country, and the shoe was on the other foot...cause one day it will be...what would you want to happen? would you feel that you were owed something? Ofcourse you would...so why are you expecting different from other people?

We each have done things in our past. It is better to let the dog sleep.

There are several different programs the federal governement has for native Americans. Then also figure they can have the casions and not have the federal tax the regular casions have.
I do not say it is fair for the past treatment, but it is better than others have gotten for similar past problems.

Hmm, I don't know about that. What our ancestors did to the Native Americans though, was just as bad, if not worse, than what Nazis did to the Jews.

does a tiger owe a zebra's family somthing when it kills one for food? We did this to form our nation. The natives were running around like savages scalping people. We brought civilization here.

wait, you mean for taking their land and then continuing to give to give little pieces of dirt that are good for nothing and telling them to be happy about it. Yeah, I'd say we owe them a lot!! Thank you doesn't even began to express what we owe them!
