I'm interested in learning what affects the ups and downs of a stock price, among other things. I can never seem to find a "Stocks for Dummies" type of thing anywhere.

I have studied investing for decades. And, two books immediately come to mind. They are both written by Burton G. Malkiel. The first and simpler one is: "The Random Walk Guide to Investing."

If you don't mind a more complex and academic explanation of the whole investment field, he has also written the classic: "A Random Walk Down Wall Street."

Armed with either of those two books, you will know as much ore more than most investment advisers.

www.smartmoney.com is a great site to learn about the market (stocks) and the experts (analysts) who advise the public to buy, hold, or sell a stock based on the latest news about a particular company. You should just watch a stock for a month or so to see what the news is, what the CEO is saying about dividends, and how the analysts react to it. After a while you'll get some hints as to what affects the stock up or down. There is a lot more, but I would start there. I hope this helps, bv
