Have changes in the traditional nuclear family unit changed America for the better or worse?

Well as long as non traditional families are good parents who teach their kids good values, I don't see how it can be bad. Plenty of kids out there who need love and we really need to change the definition of traditional family. The traditional nuclear family has created some really good people and some really terrible people. Why not open it up to new thinking. As long as two consenting adults love each other and provide a good, loving, stable home its all good.

In my opinion changes to the traditional family unit have almost destroyed America. I am not saying that women belong behind the stove or that women have ruined the US by working. I am saying that SOMEONE needs to be raising the children. With both parents working 40+ hours per week, and the babies in day care every single day - who is raising the children? Who is giving the kids the personal attention they need to feel special? Who is teaching your kids right from wrong? An overworked, underpaid individual who perhaps does not share your moral values or ethical standpoint. Then, when the kids are in school - where it's illegal to discipline them - you can fit in more hours at work so your family can afford tons of unnecessary items like ipods and satellite garbage television with 180 channels (and still nothing on!) and the newest video game system that runs $400 - $500. Kids come home to an empty house, and tons of free time. When the parents get home they are too exhausted to even listen to their children. All the BS at work has turned the parents into nervous wrecks who would rather pay their children's way anywhere than have them in the house to pester them. What you have in this new American 'family' is kids raising themselves, growing up not even knowing the basics of responsibility or loyalty or love or anything at all, thrown head first into adulthood. Don't even get me started with the single-family homes. I know the single mom may be doing her best - but it takes two to raise a child.

The nuclear family has become a holocaust. It has been totally blown to smithereens. The number of one-parent families is ever on the increase, men are conspicuously absent from the household, violence behind closed doors is rampant and the prisons are getting fuller with heads of households. And the poor children have become the victims of all this mayhem caused by their parents. Drugs and alcohol are considered part of the norm in the family, even to the point where very young children are participating. God is not generally present in the family today. Jesus has been evicted. The situation will not improve until Jesus is readmitted into the household as the head.

Me to. I remember researching to drop, roll, and cover at college basically in case of nuclear warfare. it form of feels silly now, looking decrease back. Depends on the family. I just wish that everyone wouldn't be so judgemental. If someone wants to be with someone and build a family, so be it. There are too many baby's mommas running around with children whose fathers are absent.

well lets look at the numbers domestic violence reports are at an all time high .Women raising children on there own has dramiticaly risen in the last 30 years.LEAVING children with one parent rather then two . We have fathers in jail or deprived of driving permits because they can not afford to support two seperate house- holds.
Education is suffering because kids run wild in the class rooms they are fat and lazy to the point we will soon have bans on sodas and the quote -un quote chunk food will be removed. THERE where only two chunky kids in my classes on average 35 years ago and we had the presidents phisical fittness program and p.e. to thank along with get out of the house and play in the streets giving mom and dad a few minutes alone in the evening before dinner .NOW un less you put a big screen T.V. outside your kids are inside next to the fridge all day .THIS is because we make such a big deal about child preditors not like it is'nt but most abductions are by the parents in custody battels the 200 hundred or so real abductions are deplorable and police resources should be used to capture these offenders before all other efforts so parents can once again feel good about sending there kids out to play.
Whit more families split up and more two income families we have a national crisis on our hands and no solution in sight we need to do a better job of preparing our kids for real life.make sure the people you marry are commited to atleast getting the kids raised and out the door your needs become secondary when you bring kids into the world and end divorce on demand make both parents equaly responcible for the kids and if the man or woman is financialy un-able to take care of the kids then they stay with one who has the financial ability to pay forcing one income to be split into two house-holds is a failure among lower-income familys which is the majority . Allow liberal visitation in the home while the working parent is working to watch the kids by the parent who was the primary care- giver .this visitation should be handle similar to having a hired sitter or care giver in your home and the home should be respected that way the care giver can not invite freinds over or have relations in the home with new love intrest with out losing the right to be there .this ends the he has to pay me mentality and i can do what i want and nothing he says can change it the judge makes him pay my rent and i will do as i please in my place screw him.This leads to more domestic violence when one human being has a portion of there money taken to support the person they could not stand to live with any-more. THe american family is doomed under the current laws to handle this situation. Divorce courts are for people that have assests to divide absent assets other then one person working to support another the courts need only make parents pay for food and clothing and education equaly if one party does not work then how can they afford apartments and house payments with out making another there personel source of income and that is slavery as far as i am concerned.
Courts need to give the children to the parent who has the ability to provide and allow liberal visitation in the primary home for the purpose of raising the kids and parent #2 can leave when parent#1 comes home from work .
I do not beleif we had that many women forced to stay with abusive husbands until women started threatening men with divorce and half of everything and saying that you are gonna pay through the nose till the kids are 18 so get use to it buddy, and i will do what i want its my life and you have no say cough up the doe rae me and get out my boyfreind will be here in a minute to kick your a$$.go and do not be late with the check or i will put you in jail.
ITS THE WHOLE attitude of todays family structure who is watching out for the grandparents the gay son or daughter cause all the other kids are to busy to even help out the people that cared for them for 18 years.and grew up with them they are outcasts society puts away nursing homes alternative lifestyles just names to give people and places so you can avoid your duty to family.
ITS over for good and america is i need of changing laws to suite the new problems facing america as people make choices that involve to many people around them and not being completely responcible for there own actions it takes two to make a child and two to raise one and it should be a crime to become pregnant with out being married and commited to 18 years of supporting the child equaly 50 -50 down the middle of the exspenses not the life style and both partys to the pregnancy pay to education programs on abstanace and birth control or what you face for bringing more people in to the world you both pay and if you abort the child you still pay a minimum payment each month for 18 years as a reminder and a lesson to others to be responcible .We need to think before we act to hastily and set in motion things that will get out of control everything is like a snow ball at the top of a hill once you set it in motion you end up with a disastore at the bottoom
