I used 'check and send' pretty recently and it was great, because you don't have to send your documents through the post.
I think you have to pay for it, but if you don't mind that, it's otherwise an equivalent service.

It depends on the post office, I used check and send paid the 7:50 and I ended up telling the guy about the application form, you do get a number to track it which is a plus but I suppose it would be the same if you sent it recorded delivery, if you are not confident with application forms maybe you should check and send it

I think so, that's what I did last time, you don't have to send important documents through the post and you know the form is completed properly so it's just a case of paying a bit extra and not waiting very long for your passport to get to you.

They have changed the rules on what constitues an acceptable photograph for your passport but they don't tell you waht the new rules are so it might be worth getting it checked at the post office.

I don't believe it's quicker. I applied for a renewal in May. I didn't use check&send and it only took 2 weeks.
The rules are clear so just read them carefully and include your phone number on the form so they can ring you if there's a problem.

Well worth it you know it's coming back Completed, but the post office don't guarantee it.
I did and it came back quicker than quoted.
