Short answer: no. Boron and borax are different, but the element boron is FOUND in borax. Borax, also called sodium borate, is an important boron compound, a mineral, and a salt of boric acid. It is usually a white powder consisting of soft colorless crystals that dissolve easily in water. Borax has a wide variety of uses. It is a component of many detergents, cosmetics, and enamel glazes. It is also used to make buffer solutions in biochemistry, as a fire retardant, as an anti-fungal compound for fiberglass, as an insecticide, as a flux in metallurgy, and as a precursor for other boron compounds. The term borax is used for a number of closely related minerals or chemical compounds that differ in their crystal water content, but usually refers to the decahydrate. Commercially sold borax is usually partially dehydrated.

Borax is a somewhat generic name used to describe a number of closely related minerals or chemical compounds:

Anhydrous borax (Na2B4O7)
Borax pentahydrate (Na2B4O7 · 5H2O)
Borax decahydrate (Na2B4O7 · 10H2O)
The borax term is most usually used to describe borax decahydrate.

Its name came from Arabic būraq or bauraq بورق .

Borax, also called sodium borate or sodium tetraborate, is an important boron compound. It is a soft white many-sided crystal that dissolves easily in water. If left exposed to dry air, it slowly loses its water of hydration and becomes the white chalky mineral tincalconite (Na2B4O7 · 5H2O).

RE:
What element is found in Borax?

There are three types of Borax, which is the "brand name" for Sodium tetraborate decahydrate.

The molecular formulas for the three typer are as follows:
Anhydrous borax: Na2B4O7
Borax pentahydrate: Na2B4O7 · 5H2O
Borax decahydrate: Na2B4O7 · 10H2O

So there is sodium, boron and oxygen and sometimes bond with water.

Borax is a complex borate mineral that is found in playa lakes and other evaporite deposits. The basic structure of borax contains chains of interlocking BO2(OH) triangles and BO3(OH) tetrahedrons bonded to chains of sodium and water octahedrons. Most old mineral specimens of borax are chalky white due to a chemical reaction from dehydration. They have actually altered (at least on their surface) to the mineral tincalconite, Na2 B4O7-5H2O, with the loss of water. This kind of alteration from one mineral to another leaves the original shape of the crystal. Minerologists refer to this as a pseudomorph, or "fake shape", because the tincalconite has the crystal shape of the predecessing borax.
