im going to buck the trend. I am a HUGE cardinals fan. I think a trade needs to be made to upgrade the outfield with a bat. If Rolen would have played last year then the offense would be way down from a year ago. An Abreu or Jason Bay would be a nice fit. Pitching help is needed but the offense has bailed them out a couple times. just a thought.

Trading for a hitter would be a huge mistake by the Cards. They have plenty of offense. Remember power hitters are not really the key to scoring runs. They are the spectaculer hitter but sometimes not even the RBI leader on a team. The Cards have enough speed and good contact hitters to generate plenty of runs even if Pujos, Edmonds and Rolen were all on the DL at the same time. Now that Sanders isn't killing Cardinal rallies they have no instant out in the lineup.

What the Cards need is starting pitching. They have two good starters and a couple guys that might come up to speed. This leaves them at a disadvantage in a short series like the playoffs or in a crucial pennent race series. Against the Stro's for example the Cards could get pitched into oblivion. The Reds have put together a good staff but have too many KO artists in their line up to be a real danger. Nothing is more deadly to a rally than a hitter striking out.

No. True, they are in first place after a week without him, but that's because the Cardinals played Milwaukee, and the Cubs actually decided to win a couple games and beat the Reds.
Pujols is a traditional second-half slumper when it comes to batting anyway. The Cards were able to stay on top last year without Scott Rolen because of Tony LaRussa, and they will do it this year without Pujols because of Tony LaRussa.

No, the Cardinals are on a roll right now, and although they might lose the lead in the NL Central to the Reds for a couple of weeks, they still have the talent of Rolen, Edmonds, and a lights out pitching staff to stay competitive in the Central. Trading someone could mess with team chemistry right now. Look at the Diamondbacks who have lost 7 straight since Grimsley was suspended. The Cards might lose the lead but they are playing better ball than the Astros or Brewers, so i dont see them slipping any lower than 2nd for a few weeks in the central.

I don't think so. They already have other power hitters in Rolen and Edmonds. Plus they have one of the best managers in baseball. Being a Reds fan, I hope the Reds will overtake them, but knowing Tony R. he will find a way for the Cards to win without pujols. By the way, Pujols is the best pure hitter in baseball, you can not trade for anyone to replace him.

No, they already have Edmonds and Rolen can do it, but the Reds will take the division lead, and by the time Pujols gets back, it will be too late. St. Louis takes Wild Card, Mets win the East, and the Dodgers or D-Backs win West.

I'm gonna say no also. They could go out and pick up somebody like a Ruben Sierra for the occasional pop in the batting order or Maybe get Kevin Millar from the O's who aren't going anywhere. But to go out and give up a prospect of any value for another big hitter is a waste. If anything, always go for pitching.

They shouldn't worry about a thing. They have been without Pujols for a week and they're in first place. They aren't in trouble and they won't be in trouble unless Ken Griffey Jr. is able to hit 30 homers before Pujols is able to return.
