maybe you could bring something from home 3 times a week, like a fruit salad, or anyt kind of salad then eat what the cook makes 2 days a week. then when you get home eat a healthy supper. I also have a job that requires sitting my entire day. I go for walks on my 15 minute breaks and eat a healthy lunch. It seems to help, I am almost 20 weeks and have only gained 7 lbs! Good luck!

Talk to your doctor. He/she can give you a calorie chart and tell you how much weight to gain for the health of you and the baby and how many calories you can eat daily to not exceed that weight. I think, in a way, that it's fortunate that you have a cafeteria where you can eat your biggest meal early in the day and then have a light supper. On the other hand, that could be a problem if the family has their big meal at the end of the day as dinner. On your breaks, take a walk and, if it's safe, park farther away from the office/shop/store and walk a little farther to and from the car. Good luck. Back in the 60s, my OB/GYN was very strict about weight gain and I remember carrying green beans in a thermos for my lunch--that was fun.

I just delivered about 2 weeks ago and I had a sit down at desk all day job as well. My doctor told me to not really worry about gaining weight, but just to think about what is healthy for a baby to eat. ( would you feed a baby french fries or a processed meat patty on a bun, how about anything from taco bell???) I asked myself that question whenever I was choosing what I was going to eat for lunch. Limit yourself to only eating fried foods to once a week. Stay away from anything at a fast food restaraunt. Eneve the salads are bad!!!! Don't forget to dring plenty of water!!!

In nature, you don't see fat animals. So I suggest packing alot of fruits and veggies for lunch. Baby carrots with something to dip them in, or other veggies like broccoli, peppers, mushrooms. Bananas since they won't drip or make a mess. Salads. Or veggies, cheese, and crackers. The less processed foods you eat, the less weight you'll gain. And anything that is refrigerated would be great because you could carry a lunchbox with a cold pack, keep it at your desk, and have healthy munchies whenever you got a craving. Even a jar of peanut butter to dip things like crackers or celery in would rock. And its alot better than hitting up a vending machine!

Please don't starve yourself. Eat healthy at the right time. Just control the portion size and avoid terribly oily or fatty food. But my suggestion is you have to have everything in moderation that's all. It will be great if you can pack your own lunch. Its never a good idea to eat cafeteria food. And please don't just eat the salad, eat healthy. Its advisable to eat a fruit after lunch or dinner. Don't eat just fruits as dinner. Remember you have a child in your tummy which needs good nutrition. You will be fine.

Two main things influence weight gain. The amount of calories that you eat and the type of foods. Keep balanced your carbs, sugars and proteins. Through out the day divide your portions into six meals. This way your metabolism will be at work and you won't be hungry through out the day. You will burn more calories and eat less. Keep in mind that nutrition and health of you and your baby are the most important things.

First of all Congratulations! packing your lunch is probably better since you'll what what will be going into it. Avoid fried, fatty foods and eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Get up and walk around periodically during your shift or after you eat lunch. As long as you stay active and eat healthy you should be ok.

My doc told me, that not every time if I think I am hungry, I am hungry. Sometime it is a sign of your body wich tells you I am THURSTY.
Drink more water. Eat fruits between your meals. Mix it. You can eat choclate too. JUST don't think I HAVE TO EAT FOR 2 !!!!!!!!!! Your Baby takes what it needs. Check your nails, if they are week and break easy, then it is a sign, that you need more vitamins. Walk a lot. Don't eat to much fast food.

I would suggest bringing lunchmeat sandwiches like ham, turkey, roastbeef, etc., on whole wheat bread and a sensible snack like pretzels or baked chips or some yogurt or cottage cheese. stay away from too much tuna as it has mercury in it and stay away from buying subs from places like Subway b/c pregnant women shouldn't eat meat that has been sitting out.
