No, it's not necessary. As to whether you "should" have one really lies within the type of person you are. If you want a girlfriend, then go for it. If not, don't feel judged that it doesn't interest you at the moment. There's no study that shows that teenagers with or without "partners" will be better or worse off for future life endeavors. You won't be dubbed as a social outcast or anything like that- so don't feel pressured to do something you don't want to do. Women will respect you more if they find out that you don't follow the crowd- the confidence will show.

Easy way to deal- besides family, put school as your number one priority, and then add in your interests as second. If you want to date- then date. But if you notice dating starts to interfere with or puts a strain on your priorities, you should rethink how your relationship is working- and if you want to continue it.

I don't see why it would be necessary during very early teenage years. Most of the relationships that occur during those years never last anyways. Another thing, do you really want to be in a committed relationship during the time of your life when you should be seizing opportunities? A relationship could really bog you down.

Absolutely NOT!! You're at a time in your life when you should be experiencing tons of new things. You've got the rest of your life to be settled into a relationship... for now, enjoy yourself. Date people casually ~ or don't! Don't get wrapped up in trying to be like everybody else. It doesn't get you anywhere. Be happy with yourself ~ whether alone or with others. That doesn't mean that you CAN'T have a girlfriend. Just don't base your teenage life on it.

i wouldn't say that it is necessary to have a girlfriend during teenage years but sometimes it is good to have one so you will always have someone to talk to when there is no one else a gf will be there to snuggle with you and enjoy the time you have left of your day and then on

It really depends on what age if you ask me. The early teens, it isnt so important, but later on, as partners get more intimate, a teen may feel left out. Social interaction may decrease. A teen may want to feel needed and loved. And, of course, hormones are kicking in. A lot of emotional turmoil goes on in teen's lives, so they feel they're better off if they have someone that will always be there for them. Yes, there are friends, but friends can turn their backs on a teen for another teen. In conclusion, teens may or may not feel like they need a girlfriend, I feel that it would be unhealthy for them not to want one because, after all, it is a natural thing to like the opposite gender at this time, but if a teen doesnt need or want one, well, that's their descision.

No it's not necessary because your tastes change too rapidly.
Be friends with many, and have fun while in HS. There will be plenty of time for girlfriends, as you continue to mature, and find out who you are..

Certainly not. I'm 20 and by choice I've never had a girlfriend. I figure I don't know myself well enough yet and we'll probably just break up like every girlfriend and boyfriend in their teens nowadays.

not at all, i was single until my senior year of high school, and even then it wasn't too serious. Teenage relationships are just test drives to get better in other relationships in the future. But don't get into one just cause everyone else is.

Not necessarily sweetie...do not go carried away by what the others do, okay. It is only the galloping hormones at this age which makes guys want to go around with a girl, basically. But if you fall in love with someone, never hesitate to ask HER!!!
