Why does everybody not like southern people?

That is a misconception. I was born and raised in the south until I moved to the north as a teen. The pace in the north is very fast compared to the slow drawn out south. I think people from the south are generally more polite than northerners but I think their sweet demeanor is sickening and plastic to most northerners because they can not believe people are geniunely that happy. Northerners like people to be straight up with them and not beat around the bush. This is why northerners come off as gruff or blunt to southerners. I've been on both sides and understand each. I have been totally sucked into the northern way of life and now do not have patience with the southern lifestyle.
I feel like I am pulling words out of my southern relative's mouths when they talk to me now. But I am jealous of the laid back attitude they have. It could be a jealousy thing or that southerners have the reputation of being slow and putting on a facade. Northerners in my opinion keep it real- no syruppy fake acts.
By the way not everyone dislikes southerners. Although we should all value diversity...people tend to stick with their own kind...it makes them feel more comfortable. So if you (assuming you are southern) were to meet a southerner and a northerner in another part of the world you and the southerner would probably have more to talk about and enjoy each other's company more than with the northerner. We as humans are drawn to others who are more like us. I am not saying it is right because we all put our pants on the same way...but it is human nature.

I'm from the south and everyone doesn't dislike us. The most common thing is a misconception that we're all stupid, ignorant, rednecks. Hey, we have our share of idiots but if you look in Forbes Most Wealthy and Powerful people in the world....the arrow points south to many many people. Including WalMart's Walton Family and several Presidents. Even southerners may not think these presidents are all that smart but they're intelligent enough to get elected! O' and looky there, I can speak proper english and an added bonus...I have all my teeth!lol

So, in conclusion...I'm a proud rebel flag flying southerner! And no I don't hate minorities or support the KKK!

I wouldnt say "everyone" dislikes southern people. I am a southern person, and I have noticed that southerners are typically portrayed in the media/TV/movies, etc. as slightly to grossly more ignorant than the general population, in-breeders, etc. Which are all fallacies. We all do not talk or dress like Daisy and Luke Duke. Those that have preconceived notions about "southern people" probably have preconceived notions about other ethnic groups and cultures. Dont let their narrow mindedness get to you.

I don't think this statement goes for everyone. And it is a two way street. You have to give respect to get respect.

I have lived in the north and the south. When I was in the north some people called me a hillbilly or redneck, because of my southern accent. When I was in the south some people called me a yankee or hoosier because of my "northern ways".

It used to hurt me, but I realized I could embrace both.

So I am a yankee redneck or a hoosier hillbilly.

a) southerners dislike northerners and pick at them for being from up north

b) most southerners (who are from the south, not move there) act ignorant and funny
