If peripherals such as a keyboard, mouse, CD-rom, USB port, floppy drive, etc are all non-essential then how would you use the computer? At least you wouldn't worry about virus's, malware or software going out of date.

Depends on how you are using the computer. If it is a server then you don't really even need a keyboard. On the other hand a printing company might consider a printer and scanner to be essential.

Hey,
These devices include: keyboard, mouse, controler, screen, and microphone.
None of them are absoltely required, but if you have none of them, you can't put in information to the computer, or get anything back. The computer will still work, but you won't be able to do anything with it.
