Advertisers would panic, MTV would lose money, and eventually fold.
The blame is to be placed not on the people who currently watch MTV, but on the generation who grew up with Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn, Alan Davis, and the like.
My generation grew up and abandoned MTV. Watching videos became boring, so MTV attempted to find new ways to lure our eyes and ears. It worked for a little while, until we got a little older.
At that point, the music industry changed as well. The internet became the source for people to learn about new music. The next wave of kids have been weened on an MTV which uses moronic programming (due in part, to the success of the "Real World") to captivate its crowd.
The bands from 1980-199? made music which could be represented in a short form video. These days, the short form video is nothing short of softcore porn.
MTV can never go back to videos 24/7. There's no money to be made.

Singers/bands used to make videos specifically to get it played on MTV as part of promoting the new single, or new album. Bands tour for the same reason, to sell records. However, in these days of the internet, and Youtube, bands aren't really even making videos like they used to. There's no need, they're getting all the free Youtube publicity; and like you said, if they do make a video, it's on the internet for free. Basically, the internet killed MTV. Well MTV killed MTV, but while they were showing everything but music videos, we, as the listening public, have moved onto other formats to get our music and see our videos. Devlin B.

That would be great. Although I would miss some of the reality shows that are on MTV. The only time I can catch a video is early in the mornings or on TRL.
It's MusicTV not RealityTV.

I would actually watch that channel. It seems like ages since I saw a video on MTV. Sick of the reality shows.

I would finally stop wondering, "Where did the music go?" What ever happened to MTV2, Where the Music's At? It quickly turned into another station to broadcast MTV reruns on.

I think I would have a heart attack. But, I have to say I have gotten hooked on some of the reality crap. I do wish they would play more videos and when they do play videos play the whole thing.
