Because any music that was written and played and sung back then has morphed into what we listen to now. Whether it was for religious expression or for telling tales, music of long ago also tells us about the people back then who performed it. It is interesting to see the transformations in sounds of music in each historical period and of course some people make a complex study of that.

No the real question is Why do people listen to that Rap crap. The best is Rock ie Metallica, Ozzy, Tool, NIN, Godsmack.

Probably so they get ideas for their songs.

One thing you you might want to know is that at one point in time some of these guys were considered radicals,like rock once was ..

Good music is good music, it doesn't have an expiry date. Plus, most music nowadays is terrible.
