In response to current answers:

This isn't for direct calling, it's an upper management position at a giant direct marketing corporation that does direct mail (all that crud you get in your mailbox).

It is essential. Do you think it would still be practiced among corporations if it was not effective?

Very good results....it is all in the numbers.

I will not say that direct marketing is evil. I am not a fan, I hate being interrupted by someone that want to discuss a subject I have no interest in what so ever and also interrupting what I am doing at the time.

I do not hang up or call them dirty names, I simply say will you hang on a minute please and never go back to the telephone. When I know they have hung up, I then replace my phone. This eliminate stress on me as I can now go back to doing what I want to do without a long conversation with the intruder.

They apparently are getting the message, I am getting fewer calls.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

Direct Marketing is the devil's work. If you wish to be scorned by others and hated by the folks you call then by all means go for it.

Of course if you have no moral backbone and ambition greater than sense this could be the career move for you...

I believe it is! Not only is it a colossal annoyance to the consumer, but it is hard on the seller as well. If you can handle being blasted out of the water by the people you contact, then take the job. If you hate being called as much as I do, then don't take the job (do unto others as you would have them do unto you).
