Do you have an antivirus/anti-spyware program? Try to update that and run it first, just to make sure your Internet Explorer hasn't been "hijacked". Next - are you only trying to open Internet Explorer from the shortcut on the desktop, or have you tried clicking Start, and then going to Programs and starting it from the programs menu? Sometimes that will work, if the desktop shortcut doesn't. Did you just install a new piece of software or hardware? Sometimes that can interfere with programs running correctly. If you have Windows XP, you can "roll back" your computer to a previous time when Internet Explorer worked. You can do that by clicking START, PROGRAMS, and then ACCESSORIES and then SYSTEM TOOLS, where you will find a program called SYSTEM RESTORE. It is a very useful program and very easy to use. Simply pick a point in time (say a week ago) when your Internet Explorer last worked, and then tell it to restore your computer to that time. You will not lose any data or e-mails or anything like that, but your system configuration will revert to the way it was on the day you choose to set your system to. If none of this works, and you have your original Operating System CD-ROM, you can insert the CD when you are booted to Windows, and "reinstall" windows - it basically reinstalls a copy of itself right over where the existing Windows is - replacing any broken files that are keeping Internet Explorer from working. Last but not least (and this is a very brief list of things you can try) - you can format and reinstall Windows from scratch - but I would only do that as a last resort. Oh yeah, you can also stop using Internet Explorer, and since you obviously have access to the internet from some other way, you can see if you can download a copy of the Firefox browser and use it instead, transferring it to your computer using a flash drive.

Go to Control Panel and Internet Options and make sure everything is set to defaults on all tabs. If that doesn't work, have a friend download Firefox and burn it to a CD and install it. If your PC is almost brand new, is it still under warranty?

You need to have a company to provide you the service first of all, otherwise you can't access the internet just for free!
