No. I am American and mine were removed due to multiple infections. My husband on the other hand is from Canada and it isn't common for them to remove tonsils there, even with frequent infections.

I don't think so. Some people never have problems with their tonsils swelling or anything. Yet some do and have to have them removed.
I don't really know, but I'd think that not everyone does.

I've still got mine! My kids, however, both needed to have their tonsils and adenoids removed.
