I enjoy going to Universal, but I definitely prefer Disney any day. The main thing that really disappoints me about Universal is how rude there employees are to there guests, not only that but how dirty they keep everything too. You're paying more for less too compared to Disney, ticket prices are the same , but Universal can be finished in one day (including Island's of Adventure), Disney takes at least a week to experience the main things. Well, I hope you and your son enjoy your trip, and have fun!!! Just don't expect everything, that way your expectations won't get shot down.
Not only what i said above but the other night my fiance and I tried to go see a movie and were rudely kicked out for being a certain ethnicity. (For the story click here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgQQJ0varIMmTaK67A6yW.nsy6IX?qid=20060619041405AAUBjRX )

Universal doesn't suck, per se, but it does suck in comparison to disney. That was a horrible decision. Universal is okay, The rides aren't necessarily boring, but they're so average. They're just regular everything you would expect rides. ya know? But its lost on me how you chose Universal over Disney. You're never too old for Disney and 9 is actually probably a good age. There would have been a lot for him to do at Disney World. Especially the new great ride at Animal Kingdom called Expedition Everest, that thing rocked! But every park would have been perfect fro him. EPCOT has Mission Space and Test Track, which I would think a 9 year old would be extremely interested in. And the only thing sort of girly, or not for a 9 year old boy would be at Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom. Everything else would have been perfect about Disney I believe. Plus Disney has 4 parks, 2 waterparks, Downtown Disney, and Disney Quest. You picked 2 parks (universal/islands of adventure) and Universal Citywalk over all of that?
Wow.
Best of Wishes to ya.

I went to Universal Studios a couple of years ago. It was alright, but if you wanted to ride some fast rides you picked the wrong place to go. The only real ride they have there is E.T....unless they built something else since I've been there. We didn't have passes to go to Island of Adventures so maybe that was why I thought it was kinda lame. As for you making a huge mistake...it probably won't turn out that way because some of the stuff was actually pretty cool to see. Besides you can always go to Disney some other year....I'm sure it will still be there. Have fun!!!

I liked Universal and Islands of Adventure a lot. I'd have to say, more than Disney. I just got back about a week ago. I haven't been to Great America since I was little, so I can't compare the two. But I definitely wouldn't say that Universal sucks. The Men in Black ride and Spider Man 3-D ride are really fun, and very different.
Disney restructured their pricing this year. I payed more and got less than I did in the past.
I just read what Ditzy chick wrote, and the rudest I got treated was by a Disney employee, he was trying to convince me to walk back to my car to get my confirmation number, stand in the bag check line again, then get in the ticket booth line again, just so he wouldn't have to look up my tickets on his computer. And I went to Sea World, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

I don't know about Six Flags Great America but I've been to Universal and Disney and love both. I think your family would like both. Universal isn't as big as Disney. Universal consists of two parks (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure) and Disney has 4 parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, MGM, Animal Kingdom), 2 water parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon). Universal has a Marvel comic book land which is great for boys but I would also recommend Animal Kingdom for you son too. Check out the websites I've listed.

It just depends what you like and what your son likes. I think Universal is fun, but it is somewhat dissapointing after Disney. I still think Disney may be more for a 9 year old, but it depends what kind of rides he likes. Islands of Adventure as the most coasters if he likes that. I definitely think you should do both parks, I don't think you would need more than one day at each park, they don't take nearly as much time as Disney.
But really, it just depends what your son likes. The best thing to do is look at the website with your son and see how he feels. When I go to Universal, I usually just do it at the beginning or end of my Disney vacation since I only need a day or two. But, there is still a lot more to do in the area, I don't think you will be dissapointed.

You'll have a BLAST at Islands of Adventure if he's a thrill seeker. The other side has been improved a lot in the past couple of years because they knew some of the stuff was getting lame. It's more "experience rides" rather than extreme rides. There's still plenty of stuff there that a kid will love -- E.T., Jaws, Earthquake, Terminator -- and it will be a nice break for you to not have to be screaming on rides all day. Don't go second-guessing yourself -- you've booked it, so now look forward to it, make the most of your trip, and have fun!

You absolutely DID NOT make a bad decision by choosing to go to Universal. My husband and I have annual passes to Univeral Studios and Islands of Adventure and we go all the time and never grow tired of it. When you purchase your ticket... definitely get the one that allows you to go inbetween the 2 parks... both Universal and Islands. At Universal make sure to ride "The Mummy", "Men In Black", "Back To The Future" and "Jaws". Absolutely do not pass up "Shrek 4-D". The bigger rides are over at Islands of Adventure.... If he's into coasters then he is absolutely going to love "The Hulk" and "Dueling Dragons".... If coasters are not his thing (or if he's not quite tall enough to ride them yet), then there's still plenty to do. He'll love "The Jurassic Park River Adventure", "The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman", "Popeye's Barge" (prepare to get absolutely drenched on that one) and "Dudley Falls". And even still, I'm just naming a few at each of the parks. Some of the really good shows to see are "Fear Factor Live", "Beetlejuice's Graveyard Review" and "Sinbad". Don't fret... you and your son will both have a blast!!

Universal isn't the best as far as Thrills go. If you got tickets to Islands of Adventure they that would be better than just the regular park! If you can do Disney definitely do it! We just went and upgraded our passes to annual passes b/c it has changed so much. Have a great vacation.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to agree with Ditzychik508 all the way. For being regulars there for the last 7 years, we were treated very rudely in the Hard Rock Hotel last year and the rooms were dirty. As for the parks, they are not as friendly as Disney's employees are.
