Waiting room facilities at Railway platforms are as per the class of journey confirmed ticket. You can use the facilities for the same day of your departure begining 8 -12 hours before the departure time of your train.

I think you can stay in the waiting room until the departure of the train for which you hold a ticket. However, railway folks never bother and you can stay there forever :-)

As per Indian Railways rules you can enter only 2 hour before the scheduled departure of train. Even if we have connecting train or from wherever we are coming for normal passenger like us is not allowed to enter unless you give them some money (ghus). At Howrah Jn I had my connecting train at 11:00 AM. I was coming from Barkakana and tries to enter at 6 AM. They stopped me when I requested they asked for Rs 200 this is our Fuc*ing Indian Government Policy.
