Depends on what you want to do with it. Mobile homes do not have a good resale value, and do not hold their value well. But you can get all the amenities for cheap.
Mobile homes can also be dangerous in bad weather, so be careful. It is also harder and more expensive to finance a mobile home.
If you want to buy a mobile home and live in it for a while then use it as a rental property later when you can afford a better house, go for it. Or if you could use the land its on to build a house.
But if you are looking for a home to appreciate in value and that you will be able to sell at some point in the future, go with the smaller home. (That's what I did.)

As a manufactured home salesperson I can honestly say that a manufactured or "mobile" home is not for everyone. Yes they have gotten better in bad weather, in some cases on par with some tract homes. However the odds that weather will cause major damage is increased in a park due to the relative openess and flatness of teh overall landscape.
Manufactured homes do not hold value like a site built, however one option you might consider is the modular home. These have the benifits of manufactured in that they are constructed in a controled environment liek manufactured. But they are built to sometimes stricter standards than the HUD code which governs manufactured housing. The pricing will still save money and these homes are inspected, appraised, and finaced exactly like a site built home while costing you less.
In many cases you can get more for your money in a modular than in a site built home.
Another consideration is what Brand of home your purchasing. If you purchase a site built home, be sure you know as much as possible about the standards to which it was built. How is the foundation? How much will it cost to maintain? What are the average per foot energy cost?
Do the same with a mobile and a modular and I think you will see some pretty big differences. If yoiu do go with either manufactured or modular be sure to ask about the factory. Many will even offer a factory tour so that you can see exactly how the homes are built.

Depends on where u live. I live in FL now and the insurance on Mobile homes are atrocious. Many of the big insurers won't insure them here... in fact I think at this point the only insurer is the state of FL and you will pay through the rear. The amount of $$ you will save in mortgage would be made up with insurance. Some mobiles are flimsy and depending on the manufacturer may not be made well. If you are not in an area prone for hurricanes, tornadoes or earthquakes you should be alright. However, I'd take a smaller home than the bigger mobile.

It's personal choice but my choice would be the house. I've appraised homes for 15 years. I've seen many people loose money on mobile homes and very few on houses. The house is a safer investment.
However, if you want to get more bang for your buck the mobile home is cheaper. Just keep in mind when you sell your potential buyers will think the same.

You can't base a decision like this on square footage. Go to your library and get "home-buying for dummies", its a really good resource for homebuyers.
Basically, it depends on what you want and where you are in your life. Do you have kids? Then which home is in a better school district. A home would build equity, gain in value (especially if you improved it), and improve your credit if you make your payments ontime.
How long do you intend to live at either of these places?
Personally, I'd by the house, improve it a bit and then sell it for a nice guy (after living there for two years, for tax purposes).

how much land comes with the house for1? is the mobile home set up on its own private lot? trailers may be cheaper in price but thier aslo cheaper in taxes and other stuff. and being in a mobile home park does not make u trailer trash , there are alota really nice parks out there , i live in 1 its great , and if i wanted to sell my trailer i could get more for it now than what i paid for it. id go for the cheaper all maxed out mobile home if i were u . mobile homes are really sweet these days.

Buy the house. You are buying the land as well and that what appreciates in value. Mobile home is just a structure and it only goes down in value.

I think you should have the house inspected, and remember you will have to pay on the land where the mobile home sits, If the mobile is in a park. then keep in mind this will make you trailer trash.... which is in a nicer area??? the house sounds very small. is it in a bad neighbor hood????? Is the house brick or sided???

I KNOW COLUMBIA, I LIVE AN HOUR FROM YOU. YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD TO THE HOUSE LATER. JUST Don't buy in a bad neighborhood and you'll be fine! You will regret buying a mobile home. 10 years will go by.....the mobile home will be worth the same IF your lucky, while in 10 yrs, the house could go up $15,000-50,000 up in value.
