Even though I am a Tigers fan and can vaguely remember the last time the Tigers were a legit team (1987, lost in ALCS to the Twins), I would venture to say that the White Sox will prevail in the Central. Not that any of this will stop me from cheering for the Tigers this year and every other year, just the logic of White Sox having a little better overall talent. But the Tigers have shown a tremendous amount of heart this year which I cant remember a Tigers team coming back and not quitting like this one.

Uh, NyronP? Have you looked at the standings recently? If you had you would have noticed that the Tigers and White Sox own 2 of the 3 best records in baseball and the 2 best in the AL with roughly 40% of the season completed. And you think they both suck? Get a clue.
Anyway, I'm not so sure this is going to develop into a truly great head-to-head rivalry. Granted, it's one that dates back over 100 years, but as far as I know there has never been a particularly high amount of tension between these two. I'd say there's more between the White Sox and Twins, or White Sox and Indians. And definitely between the Sox and Cubs considering the episode in May and the polarity between the two clubs' fan bases.
There was a legendary brawl between the Sox and Tigers in 2000, but most of the players and personnel on both sides has changed since then. The Tigers have Magglio Ordonez who is no longer thought of too fondly on the South Side. The teams match up pretty well in terms of pitching and style of play, but the Sox could outslug the Tigers most days. The Sox own a 6-1 record against the Tigers thus far this season. Kind of lopsided. And you just don't get the sense that the Tigers can maintain this torrid pace they're on. While they'll be much better than a .500 club this season and may make the playoffs as the wild card, it's only a matter of time before they are overtaken by the Sox.
Maybe this is a matchup that will improve over the coming years and months, but I have serious doubts. The media will continue to focus on the Red Sox and Yankees because there has always been the "East Coast" bias. And, since the Cubs are still owned by one the nation's largest media conglomerates they and their "classic" rivalry with the Cardinals will always have the spotlight shown on it. While the Sox and Tigers have greatly improved and they'll certainly continue to have more attention paid them, I think they're both destined to at best be in the back seat of a car driven by the Red Sox and Yankees with the Cubs and Cards riding shotgun. I, as a lifelong White Sox fan have already come to terms with this fact and really don't have a problem with it.

mr. smith the cards have to make the playoffs with pujols out not looking good. that said white sox are a better team then the tigers and will more then likely take the central and could once again hoist the trophy. as for a rivalry not bad with 13 games left might get exciting although the tigers are 1-6 against the white sox

Although I am a very big Yankee fan, I am ready to see some new rivalries and right now the White Sox and the Detroit Tigers are looking good. I live in Detroit and I am very proud of the Tigers. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep this up!

I believe the Whitesox will prevail in this one. They have more established talent and pitching. The Tigers are a good team with lots of upside who in a a year or two could overtake Chicago, but as of now they are too complete a team.
I agree with the Boston/Yankees rivalry. It is great to see sometimes, but it is getting carried away. I am from New York, but like the Mets and can't go anywhere without hearing about these two teams.

This will be a great season for both but I have to lean towards the World Champion Chicago White Sox, sorry I've been waiting my whole life to be able to say and write that.

Johnny Waffles, exactly which White Sox team are you watching? Too many holes on offense? And they probably have the best pitching staff, and definitely best starting rotation, in baseball.
Cleveland doesn't have a prayer with a team ERA pushing 5.
