It's not so much a discovery as an awareness - I think the next major change to affect our future will be the awareness that we are all spiritual beings only using a human body for a short while. It's like a suit that you get new, use it until it becomes threadbare (or no longer fits) and then you toss it to go get another.
That awareness changes perspective on things like "the rat race" and taking care of our planet, or seeking to acquire personal wealth. Knowing that WE are the ones who will have to live with the consequences of the decisions we make today - even 100 or 1000 years down the road, makes the Native American way of life 150 years ago look far more enlightened than that of their conquerors.

A truly renewable power source that does not add pollution to the planet. If freed from the power mongers, it could go a long way toward world peace as well as making the world a much better place to live in in many other ways.

Brains on a chip. Little implantable devices that can be removed and updated with the newest technologies and information. Just think, scared of science? It's all on a chip. Hate math? It's on a chip. Forget a history lesson? It's all there on a chip. Spell checker? Grammar checker? Any foreign language? Yep, it's on a chip, too!

I am developing a new idea that might revolutionize the planet. I take 2 circular pieces of wood cut from a tree trunk and drill holes through the center. Then i take a pole and run it through each hole. It can be used to transport heavy items much easier. I think I'll call it the "Wheel"

I am quite scared of the future, they could have like, locator chips implanted into evryone at birth, and you can be found, where ever you are, and they would get all of the information about you, from your social security number, to your dental records, and even your middle name. God help us all :)
