Mewtwo is in Cerulean Cave!
Zapdos is in the Power Plant!

You can check out some cheats on the Internet. Or you can, buy some cheats. Also, you can buy a Game Shark. The Game Shark might not work and the game will never work again.
In my opinion, I think you should encourage your son to never give up. By the way, if your son is stuck in a cave, use an Escape Rope.

That cave is fairly convoluted. I believe there is an exit out of the level where you catch Articuno. Don't quote me on this, it has been a long time since I played it. You can get maps of the various levels from many Pokemon-based web sites.

if they have one use an escape rope, other wise there shlould be a ladder or hole next to articuno that takes you right outside

i have not played in a long time, but surf south heading out to a nother screen look for something like this make sure you have already put the stones to stop
