It is as if we Americans were once a big stud Great Dane not taking any crap from these, that has been castrated with very little will to do anything. We are taking loads of abuse with only the far left liberals trying to do something about it. And since the hippie like liberals (who do generally have good ideas) are the only opposition, the politicians easily brush them aside as too far left and scaring us with terrorists. Checks and balances has been forgotten since the election of 2000. Remember when we tried to kick a president out for lying about cheating on his wife? Now we have a president who gives $5bil subsidies to oil companies who have turned record profits, CIA agent's cover being blown by the white house, a useless war in Iraq which has taken thousands of American lives, and we haven't even thought about taking actions against the President???

Its all economics. The US economy would flounder if it did not enter into a war or violent engagement every decade or less. Bush (both pa and sonny boy) brings in business for big businesses by being in the business of legally sanctioned killing and violent intervention in other countries affairs for valid or cooked up reasons (WMD in Iraq?).

The government keeps the people confused and docile by mind control techniques delivered via radio and television. They use certain frequencies that have been proved to affect certain areas of the brain. Don't buy into all that conspiracy stuff?? Go camping in the mountains where its harder for radio signals to reach. Don't bring a TV or a radio. Don't run any electrical devices. After about 3 days see how much different you feel. Don't take any antidepressants or anti anxiety medicine. Could there be any other reason that we Americans are confused and divided? I'm not sure I believe this my self but have considered the possibility.

the government is so large that often I can't even figure out which agency regulates or makes laws over any given thing, much less figure out how to change things

Because too many citizens have been stripped of their morality by the gov't. They have a misguided view of religious establishment.
