They use that due to its resemblance to popcorn kernels. The bag is supposed to be reminiscent of a uncooked bag of Jiffy Pop brand popcorn.

As others have noted, there are a number of them that do. Essentially those cereals that have a somewhat sticky out coating rather than straight sugar need foil or they clump together. They can tolerate less moisture. The wax paper type lining is fine for most serials. The foil lets nothing through.

Marketing ploy. Foil makes no difference to the cereal or the costs but it makes the brand unique.

Made you think about it right?

2 examples - Why is Miller Lite the only light beer on the market (because it is spelled differently than other light beers). Coors beer came out with a campaign stating they dont use preservatives - well guess what? No beer company does. Coors just was the first to say it.

Foil holds the perservative gas better, and I believe corn pops has a unique gas. It is released when you open the bag, they also go bad very fast over a short period of time once opened.

They don't use a foil liner in Canada.

Plus I'm sure it would be very costly to use it on all cereals.

Super sugar crisp used to use them , too. Does Honey Smacks? I think because th puffed up wheat/rice will go stale wayyyyyy fast if you just used the reg. plastic type liner.
