Stephen Hawking recently said that humans must go in to space to develop homes on the moon and on Mars within the next 40 years. He says that the existence of the human race depends on this due to the increasing risk that a disaster will destroy the Earth.

Regardless of whether or not there is a chance of an extinction event, I think we need to establish colonies on Mars and the moon.

We need to exapnd and explore. It is in our nature and if we want to maintain our edge in science, it serves us to develop our space capabilities.

We have to establish a base on the moon first and then we can send Stephen Hawking and his dooms day buddies any where they want to go. There is no hard proof that man is or has treated the earth so bad that we are destroying it. The earth is a miraculous piece of work it is constantly cleaning itself! Even if we tried to kill it we couldn't, well unless we took all the nukes everyone had in the world and lit them off all at once. That might work. But I think it would just kill the living and the earth would still be here and in a few million years start over again. We do have a few gloom and doom scientists who need to spread this fear in order to keep getting money from the government. It's always like this Well Mr x what are your findings about global warming? Well man kind is definitely causing global warming and if we don't stop it we will destroy the earth! Do you have any concrete proof of this? Well no not yet...but we have a hell of a theory! We need more funding to continue this most important work. And so on it goes. I remember that just 40 years ago some of the same scientists were screaming we are causing global cooling!Humm it's sure did a 180 in a short time... It's all a scam, the earth is going to do what the earth does no matter what we do.
