Some people actually are the bosses of other people, but that's usually in the workplace, where somebody needs to be in charge to make sure things run right. Parents also have to be "bosses" to their children, at least until the kids are old enough and have demonstrated the ability to make good decisions on their own. If you are talking about why people want to boss around their friends and peers, some people like to have power over others. Or they think they are smarter or better than everyone else. They have to learn that you can't really control other people. Even as a parent, you can't make your kids feel a certain way or force them to chose to become a certain career; all you can do is prevent them from making dangerous choices and give them the opportunity to learn and make good choices. Each of us has to learn that the only person I have ultimate control over is myself. I cannot control everything that happens to me, but I can control my attitude, what I say, what I do. I'm the boss of me, regardless of who else has power over my life.

Many people have the urge to be leaders. This comes from a our "ego" within our conscience brain. The satisfaction of "bossing" someone around sends euphoric sensations in the brain via encoded synapses. This feeling is very pleasing and thus, leaves people wanting a repeat of what they felt. To repeat this feeling (learned behavior), a person will repeat the behavior in order to receive the response.

Because some people just need to boss other people around to make them feel important. Something in their life is not complete, so that is how they complete it, by taking charge of someone else's life. Sick huh???

Some want to climb the ladder to success which equals more money, more status, more power. Some enjoy the responsibility. And some just don't like to take orders from anyone else.

Things come to my mind: Higher salary/pay$$$! Authority figure. Final decision maker, endorphin to the brain when bossy.
Hope you are not talking about abusive bullie type people.

Unfortunately some people just like to have authority. It brings a sense of confidence that in any other circumstance probably wouldnt be as visible in that individual.

Insecurity drives people to control everything in their world because they cannot cope with the choices that other people might make.

Probably because it is much easier than being a master over one's self. Though changing someone else is impossible, it seems easier and is more convenient than trying to change self.
