Dear "Poopie Bear",
No, that's just older people or people who are from cities where they actually smile at you. Now, you may be from a large shopping mall/Abercrombie/MAC/Neiman Marcus/BMW kind of city, and then any kind of contact other than "OMG you are SO sexy and I LOVE your HAIR and you really SHOULD get implants and Dr. Shapiro's really nice and it doesn't hurt when they put the collagen in your lips" and so on...
Well yes, then if you are THAT type I totally get it...
Whew, I need some chocolate...!

Yeah, I work with a guy who does that to every female customer we have. I can tell within 1 min weather he is talking to a guy or girl on the phone.
To answer your question, yes it drives me crazy

Not really, they are terms of endearment.
I am 55, and I love it when ppl say honey, sweetie or dear to me.

For me it really depends on the individual. If it is a complete stranger I will politely correct them.

older ppl tend to do this basically because they can't remember your name or don't want to remember a bunch of names and they do not want to be embrrassed if they do forget your name so chalk ot up to a senior moment and remember we all will be in their shoes someday

It used to, but then I realized people do it because they are kind. I hate it when men do it to feel superiour, but when older women do it because they forgot my name, I think it's charming.
