D and C (dilatation and curettage) is a procedure to scrape and collect the tissue from inside the uterus. Dilatation ("D") is a widening of the cervix to allow instruments into the uterus. Curettage ("C") is the scraping of the contents of the uterus.

Dilation and Curettage (D&C)
The dilation and curettage procedure is called a D&C. The D stands for dilation, which means enlarging. Curettage (the C) means scraping. Together, this procedure involves expanding or enlarging the entrance of a woman’s uterus so that a thin, sharp instrument can scrape or suction away the lining of the uterus and take tissue samples.

to be quite blunt, it is kid of like being vacuumed out, its the process performed usually after miscarriage, to clean out the uterus. I had this surg. myself. They do "put you under", I was in pain afterwards, but my Dr. prescribed me some pain pills, so i was able to deal. I wanted to also add that the first time I miscarried I did not have the proceedure done (the D&C) my Dr. (at the time) just gave me pills that were supposed to shed the uterus and pills to help the utreris shrink faster. A few months later I miscarried again and my new Dr. said it was due to the abnormal lining in the uterus, caused by not having the D&C w/the prev miscarriage. I had the D&C, and a year later my third and last child!

D&C stands for dilation and curettage- where they do just that- your cervix is dilated and a curette is used to scrape out the left over matter in your uterus . It is typically used as a method of abortion, but can also be used after miscarriages or in other situations where cleaning the lining of the uterus is necessary, such as pain from excess lining.

It stands for dilation and curettage. The cervix is opened throught the vagina, allowing an instrument to be inserted in the uterus to remove any contents in the uterus and the uterine lining.

Yep, that's all it is. I had one after my recent miscarriage b/c they couldnt stop the bleeding. I had lost a lot of blood, and they did the d&c so the bleeding would stop, and my body could start healing itself.
